Charity Steward's Page

What is a Charity Steward?

The three Great Principles by which we stand are; Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. Freemasons are taught to practice charity and to care, not only for their own, but also for the community as a whole, by charitable giving, and by voluntary efforts and works as individuals.

From its earliest days, Freemasonry has been concerned with the care of orphans, the sick and the aged. This work continues today. In addition, large sums are given to national and local charities.

The job of the Charity Steward within a Lodge is to encourage those Brethren who can afford it, to contribute on a regular basis, mainly at the 'Festive Board'. this money is then put into their 'Personal Charity Account', and can be used for any charitable purpose, both Masonic and non-Masonic, according to each Brother's wish.

Masonic charity is exercised at every level, individual Lodges make gifts and give aid to their own communities and every Province also gives large sums of money to regional causes. Nationally, our efforts are channelled through four main charity organisations, details of which can be found on the main 'Charity' page. They are, The Grand Charity, The Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys, The Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution, and The New Masonic Samaritan Fund.

If any Brother would like further details of any of these organisations, or of any local charity that the Lodge is supporting, please contact me for details.
